Nikkei publishes their 2020 Digital Camera markshare report

Surprise! Canon's not doomed

August every year Nikkei publishes its market share reports and this year is no different.

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise that Canon dominates the field consistently bringing in 45-50% year on year and this year, again, Canon had a 47.9% digital camera marketshare.  This includes both ILC's and Compacts, so those looking at the Nikon numbers shouldn't despair too much.  Nikon simply doesn't have the compact camera market that Canon and Sony do.  Of course, Nikon has no one to blame but themselves - DL compacts anyone?

The raw numbers for this year are;

  1. Canon: 47.9%
  2. Sony 22.1%
  3. Fujifilm: 5.6%
  4. Panasonic: 4.4%

Just because of who we are, we went back and looked at this historically and graphed it out for you.

With Nikon reporting strong sales, and by all accounts the zfc pre-selling well, Nikon is looking at reversing their 4 year downward trend.

And Canon?  Well, what is not broken certainly does not need fixing.
