More details emerge about the Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM
Canon had set its sights high when it came to the 100mm F2.8L Macro on the EF mount, containing an innovative IS unit that actually worked with close focus distances. This time, with the Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM, Canon once again seems to be serving notice. Not to be content with a run of the mill 100mm macro, Canon, according to Nokishita, is adding both spherical aberration control and also a 1.4x macro capability. Spherical aberration control will allow the users to "tweak" and tailor the bokeh that results from the lens. This is what the "SA Control" is shown on the side of the lens. We had discovered a 1.4x macro patent application from Canon in the past, and it certainly now seems as if this is a confirmed featured.
With this macro, Canon creates a perfect hybrid of using a macro lens as also a portrait lens, not to mention the ability to have the highest level of magnification of any OEM 100mm macro.
The price has also been leaked as being $1399 in US retailers, $100 more than the EF version.
