LensRentals takes apart the Canon 70-200 IS USM III

Lensrentals takes apart the new Canon 70-200 III and compares it against it's predecessor.  After much disassembly their conclusion is that mechanically nothing different in between the Canon 70-200 IS USM III and the Canon 70-200 IS USM II.  Which is, pretty much what Canon has stated with the release.  That it was a different color, and minor changes to the internal coatings.  Initial reviews have shown that the coatings do work to reduce flare in the new lens better than the original.

Go here to see more about the teardown, and hear Roger explain each step along the way.  His conclusions;

Well, as Canon stated, there is no difference between the Mk II and Mk III versions. If you think there’s an optical or performance difference, please contact me about some Tennessee Beach-front property I have for sale. If you’re in the market for one of these in the near future, I’d snap up a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II at discount price if you can find it.

Lensrentals has great rental deals, and amazing support, browse their rentals and try out a new lens or camera today.
