Image of the upcoming Canon RF products coming July 9th!

#FreeTheR5

It's sounding more and more likely that during the first week or so of July, the R5 (and R6) will be freed.  CanonRumors reports that the date should be around July 9th. Of course, that is timezone dependant, so it may be late at night on July 8th for people in the Americas.

A new image has also appeared by CanonRumors, which show all the new stuff in their glory. and with that, a shoutout to Craig at CanonRumors who just completed the rumor lifecycle from first leaks to full product image of the R6, R5, and lenses.

Products that will be announced are;

  • Canon EOS R5
  • Canon EOS R6
  • Canon RF 100-500mm f/4-7.1L IS USM
  • Teleconverter RF 1.4x
  • Teleconverter RF 2x

These will also be announced at the same time, but they could be extended out with development announcements only;

  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM
  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
  • Canon RF 600mm f/11 DO IS STM
  • Canon RF 800mm f/11 DO IS STM

Let the countdown begin!

One bit of bad news though, CanonRumors also states that the ship dates for the R6 and R5 are August and September respectively. So you'll have time to save up those pennies.

My attention focused on the F11 primes sitting in the back shown here.

When you consider how short the 70-200mm is (the lens in the foreground and the white lens in the background is the 100-500mm, you can certainly see that these are pretty tiny 600mm and 800mm primes - with the 800mm prime being the taller of the two).

Just to put this into perspective - here's the $13,000 EF L's super telephotos compared to the 100-400mm L.  They are so large that Canon usually puts the two lenses on their side for product shots.

We took that product image and worked out the lenses - I think this is right.  Because well, that's the kind of Canon camera geeks we really are here.

Unless I missed a lens, I do believe there's one non L in this list that is either the 85mm or the 50mm.  I think given the size, that it's unlikely to be the 50mm so I suspect it's the 85mm Macro.

The 50mm and 70-200 F4 do not appear on this list.  Making me think those two lenses will get development announcements over the others.
