DPreview publishes a Canon 85mm 1.4L sample gallery

Dpreview takes out the Canon 85mm 1.4L IS for some sample photos and shares the gallery with us.  Taken with the 5D Mark IV and the 6D Mark II, this should give anyone thinking about purchasing the 85mm a good idea what it can do.

The specifications of the 85mm 1.4L IS;

  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/1.4 to f/32
  • One GMo Aspherical Element
  • Air Sphere and Fluorine Coatings
  • Ring-Type Ultrasonic Motor AF System
  • Optical Image Stabilization
  • Dust- and Water-Resistant Construction
  • Rounded 9-Blade Diaphragm

Their comments on the 85mm:

The Canon 85mm F1.4L, announced at the end of August, updates the company's series of 85mm primes with a useful new feature: image stabilization. The lens isn't as fast as the 85mm F1.2L II that came before it, but should offer the ability to shoot handheld at slower shutter speeds.

True to its L-series branding it's dust- and weather-sealed, and it ships this month for $1600. DPR staffer Carey Rose and friend of the site Michael Bonocore have been shooting with it on the road and closer to home – take a look at some sample shots.
