Canon returning to domestic production

In a newsitch article, Fujio Mitarai, Chairman and CEO revealed that Canon is moving office equipment (and also including cameras) back to domestic production.  This is in part to assist with reducing the supply chain issues currently plaguing Canon. In the article, newswitch states that Canon moved in prior years for the cheaper labor but lately has been promoting a return to domestic production due to political stability and education standards.

Mitarai's comment is to the point;

When something happens, it's easier to do it domestically. We will gradually make our main products domestically.

In the above news video, we see part of Canon's plan as they shut down its subsidiary in Zhuhai, southern China.
