Canon Patent Application: Canon 35mm F1.4, 24mm F1.4, 22mm F1.4

It's no secret that the Canon RF F1.2's are the "new F1.4's" but will Canon create more lenses, perhaps slightly less heavier and slightly cheaper than the stratospheric F1.2's?  It's hard to say, but as a reference point, the Canon EF 85mm F1.4 was a hit with photographers, even though there was the legendary Canon EF 85mm F1.2L USM.

This brings us to this patent application where Canon is attempting to patent designs for three different F1.4 lenses, the 35mm, 24mm and 22mm.

But these sadly, are not likely for the RF mount as these lenses have a back focus distance of around 11mm, far shorter than the focal plane distance of 20mm that exists on the RF mount.

It strikes me as curious why we see full frame designs with a much shorter focal plane distance than the RF mount - could it have been at one time, Canon was looking at using a much shorter back focus distance than the current RF mount, or were they thinking of the EOS-M mount in some of these designs when they were still deciding on the mount for the full frame mirrorless?  Canon can also instead of using these designs on interchangeable lens cameras, can also use them for security cameras but they wouldn't necessarily require high magnification ratios and close focus distances in security cameras. It's probably a mystery that we'll never know.

These designs have two different focus groups and are designed to support close focusing distances with a reduction in chromatic aberrations.
