Canon M50 confirmed to shoot 4K

Well now this is interesting.

It makes sense to me that the EF-M line instead of the EF line would the first to get consumer 4K from Canon.  For starters, it's going to be the future of the Canon consumer lineup, secondly, with EVF's it is simply easier to frame and shoot video, also Canon can't be oblivious to the fact that one major downfall of their cameras is perceived to be the lack of 4K.

Finally, this makes more sense than some that were saying the M50 would be another normal camera that somehow would sit in between the M6 and the M100.  Frankly there just isn't really enough to seperate the products at this time.  Video however, would certainly do that.

Canon Rumors reports that 4K is confirmed;

We reported last month that the next mirrorless from Canon would shoot 4K video and it looks like we’ve confirmed that it will.

This would make the EOS M50 the first APS-C shooter in the Canon lineup to shoot 4K and adds a bit of credence to that special invite from one of Canon’s subsidiaries we were told about last month

What makes me wonder a bit more about this camera, is if it is using a CINI sensor which would be Super-35 instead of APS-C.  The shape and size of the sensor would be slightly different than APS-C, which may be the reason it's hidden from view.

Using a CINI sensor or a specific sensor for video and not one for stills would allow canon to optimize the sensor performance for video, and also; lessen the crop factor by using the full sensor size.

Time will tell, but it sounds like Canon has a pleasant surprise coming for those that feel every camera should be a 4K video machine ;)
