Canon looking at infrared (night mode) and color photography compact camera?
This is an interesting patent. It involves specifically moving the IR Cut filter in and out of the optical path.
This would allow the camera to be able to see full color as we do now (with the IR cut filter in place) or act as a full spectrum camera for astrophotography or terristerial photography.
Specifically, this patent is looking at a IR night mode and daytime mode of operation and optimizing the amount of room it requires. Similar to the Sony cameras of days gone by.
This diagram shows a rather small sensored camera and the entire diagram structure seems to indicate a compact with a very short registration distance between the rear lens element and the sensor.
