Canon announcements coming at the end of August
The next Canon announcements are expected to be around the end of August or early September. According to Canon Rumors what is expected is most likely the Canon EOS 90D.
The rumor also identifies that there will be another camera body announced this August.
The running bet is that this is the M5 Mark II. While the 80D and the M5 shared nearly the same DNA and specifications, it's likely that these two, if rumors are to be believed, will diverge this time around. The 90D is rumored to have dual DIGIC 8's powering it's FPS and capabilities, and the EOS-M cameras most likely have neither have the size nor the battery life to support dual DIGIC's - so while both cameras are to get upgrades, the 90D should be the more significant of the two.
Will any of these cameras receive IBIS? The M5 seems the more likely to receive IBIS, even though the rumors are running breathlessly right now over Canon DSLR's getting IBIS soon. I still feel that IBIS on a DSLR is not something Canon is going to commonly do in the near future. As talked about here. I even read some articles stating the patent was illuding to IBIS in a DSLR (It's not). Personally, I feel that IBIS should be something that unless we hear definitive proof of it coming out in the 90D that it's best to assume it is not. There are many reasons why such as optical viewfinders, DSLR based high precision AF and even DLSR based spot metering. These are not best served by IBIS.
It's unlikely that another EOS R camera will come out this year. Personally, I feel that Canon just needs more time with DIGIC 9 around the corner in 2020.
As far as lenses, it's rumored that Canon will release yet another kit lens for the EOS-M; however, I'm hoping for at least another prime. It's expected that we will see the official release announcements of the upcoming;
- Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
- Canon RF 24-70 F2.8L IS USM
- Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
- Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L DS USM
