First look at the Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM
Nokishita has leaked the first image of the upcoming Canon RF 50mm F1.8 and the first thing that struck me is that it's really small.
In my mind, there's no doubt that this is going to be an ultra-cheap prime for the RF mount. It's size speaks to a much simpler element design, than say the Canon RF 35mm F1.8. So while it may not be as sharp wide open as the 35mm, I suspect it will also be much cheaper than the 35mm with a very simple element design.
We can't determine much from the picture, except that it has the now-familiar control switch that changes the focus ring from control to focus.
By the size and "look" of the lens, I suspect it's this patent application we discovered. The total lens length in that patent application is 38mm, which seems to fit with what we are seeing in the image.
Nokishita just released the element design for the 50mm and it looks nearly the same as the EF model.
Which means two things. don't expect perfection, but expect it to be a fantastic bang for the buck.
We expect this lens to be announced soon and to be an instant hit.
