Canon's upcoming 8K CINI Camera: Concept explanation
This week there was a bunch of breathless rumors about Sony now having an 8K sensor and the possibility of the A7S going 8K in its next camera body. We felt this article was timely, as Canon has been demonstrating it's 8K CINI Camera, showing that they are perfectly capable of creating 8K CMOS sensors.
As a matter of fact, Canon has had this technology since 2015 when they first started demonstrating 8K video. Why they haven't released it yet is anyone's guess, however, a good one may be that the market simply isn't there for 8K yet.
We expect that Canon will release 8K something before the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, as Japan is wanting the broadcast to showcase Japan technology, and be in 8K video. Canon will join the other players such as Sony, Panasonic - who are all either demonstrating or close to releasing 8K video systems.
Cinema5D caught up with Toshiyuki Akimoto from Canon who is responsible for the development of 8K monitors and cameras.
