Tariffs Adding Uncertainty - The R6 Mark III Saga

The R6 Mark III has been rumoured since last year, and its release is being pushed back again.  So yes, the R6 Mark III will come. Sometime.  I always thought that the original rumour of it arriving late last year didn't make much sense at the time, and its progressive delay seems to put it back into the regular schedule of 3 years or so between camera releases. I wouldn't be surprised to see it late this year, which would make it 3 years, or even in the spring of 2026.

I still think this is the year of the APS-C cameras, more than anything, and that's simply shaped by the numbers.  Canon's APS-C entries, starting with the R100, have not dominated sales in the domestic market in the same way Canon has with the Rebel lineup for the Canon EF mount and the M50 during the EOS-M era.   The R100 has experienced dismal market penetration in the Japanese market.

Canon always takes a dim view of not being #1 in Japan, so I'd be shocked if there wasn't a serious effort to change that.  The EOS R50V was a good start, but just a start.

Tariffs - Here we are again

With tariffs, Canon, as well as other manufacturers, are likely evaluating their supply chains from various countries and deciding on where and when to make adjustments.  I also wouldn't be surprised to see items being released on a "non-USA" market soon as well.  We have seen regional releases from Canon before, and currently, there's not much that would surprise me anymore.

I believe that any company, whether it be Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, or even one in another industry, can adapt to a changing environment as long as there is consistency and a long-term plan laid out by the government.  Off-and-on policies are just going to make life harder for Canon and everyone else.  With the high level of uncertainty, almost anything is possible, and I think that any rumour stating they know what is coming 3 to 6 months, or even 9 months, in the future is pretty unreliable at this point.
