CanonNews / Tuesday, July 6, 2021 / Categories: News, Canon General News Yongnuo releases the Canon RF YN 85mm F1.8R DF DSM Yongnuo has released a Canon RF version of their mirrorless 85mm for the Canon RF mount. What I feel is surprising is that this lens also includes a control ring, something I would have not have expected from the third party vendors. So some huge kudos to Yongnuo. They have also put a de-click option on the lens which can change the control ring from a clicked mechanism to smooth. The lens also comes with a USB port for firmware updates, and by the sounds of all this, if the performance is there, this is certainly on the list bang for the buck lenses. Odds are Yongnuo is using Canon EF protocol and not the RF protocol, but someone has to check that out on an EOS R that disables high-speed display for EF lenses. MTF wise, the lens seems to be quite comparable to the Canon RF 85mm F2.0 IS USM Macro but at around $200, if you don't see yourself needing IS, and want a more affordable 85mm, the Yongnuo seems like a good deal, and unlike the Canon RF 85mm, the control ring on the Yongnuo doesn't have to be changed at the service center for de-clicked operation (for a fee). Keep an eye out at our preferred vendor, B&H for this lens to be available soon.
