PhotonsToPhotos completes its Canon M6 Mark II Dynamic Range tests

Photons to Photos completed its analysis of the M6 Mark II - and the M6 Mark II shows a significant improvement over the M6 sensor, and this, folks is with 32.5MP.

From looking at the chart below, you can see that the sensor is basically ISO invariant from ISO 320 to the end of the scale. While not as much as what Sony can do, it's curious that there's a little bump in DR around ISO 320 and 640.

While the sensor doesn't quite match up to Sony's latest and greatest 26MP sensor that features some pretty cool Aptina technology, it does, however, catch up with all the A6000 to A6500 camera bodies as shown below with the exception of around ISO 400, when, as with the 26MP, Aptina's dual gain takes over and gives the DR a little boost of around .5EV in DR.

It's good news that it seems that we are seeing not only a much faster sensor but also a much better performing sensor. It's unusual to see both conditions happen in a sensor at the same time. Usually, to increase performance, you also have to increase the amount of power used by the sensor and/or increase the wiring paths, all of which have a negative impact on how the sensor can perform.
