If you look at reviews of the EOS R, the camera that came out a year ago is nothing like the EOS R that you get today. It's faster, it's eye AF is quicker, more accurate, and competes well against the top AF systems of today.

The RF mount is Canon's mount of the future. Samyang is the first vendor out with a fully functional AF lens for the RF mount, and Sigma is rumored to be coming out early next year with RF lenses.

Canon has the set of F2.8 professional zoom lenses out of the RF mount, and more lenses coming out. From their statements, they feel that they will need 3 more years to complete the RF mount ecosystem, which means that there are going to be a ton of new lenses coming out from Canon, and all of them will most likely be for the RF mount.
