This really doesn't surprise me. The Samyang 14mm F2.8 AF for the RF mount showed that it was possible to quickly release an RF lens, even though, articles such as this seem to indicate it may be years away. The Samyang 14mm seems to use the EF protocol, because certain "RF lens only" features are turned off the EOS R when the Samyang is attached. This includes high speed display and some lens corrections. Is this a problem? For some, it may be, but it could be that Samyang, Sigma and others can quickly make RF lenses, and update the firmware at a later date for the RF native protocol functions. If Canon can make a protocol switching camera, I'm sure the lenses can be made to also switch protocols. Certain RF only elements such as the lens control dial would probably not make it on an RF lens, because it would make it more "unique" from all the other mirrorless full frame mounts, and these companies want to make a lens where one size fits all. From the rumor, it seems that the R5 which has turned the industry on it's head also got Sigma's attention, and they have accelerated their desire to get some lenses out for the RF mount. The source also stated they aren't going to convert the ART lenses to the RF mount. I assume this means the EF ART lenses.
