CanonNews / Tuesday, August 11, 2020 / Categories: Rumors, Canon Mirrorless New Rumor: Firmware coming to the Canon EOS R5 Firmware rumors don't seem to be that accurate, however, Craig at CanonRumors has an awesome run going with the R5, so that makes this rumor that much more plausible. According to CanonRumors, the R5 is going to get a firmware update that will add in the following features; Addition of Cinema RAW light option to 8K recording Addition of CLog 3 Increased record time limits (but don’t expect a huge boost) Various bug fixes It wouldn't surprise me that we see these items as they seem to address the most critical points to reviews about the R5. I do suspect that the firmware logic that decides on predictive temperature is possibly a little too strict and that the camera needs, like the Sony cameras, a "ludicrous" temperature setting that just lets the camera run, and temperature be damned unless it's going to cause a failure. It also appears that there needs to be a way to put the cards to sleep, especially while not in use - especially CFE cards. I hope that like with the R and RP Canon gets in front of some of the most vocal complaints, no matter how unrealistic they are, and tries to address the issues where it's possible. An interesting post by Baron Karza, on CanonRumors forums states; most of these firmware updates will be out before R6 ships. And the next batch of R5 will be shipped out with it. That's what my friend working at Canon told me last week. I hope this is true. The R5 needs some good news.
