There was rumors that the 7D mark III will have what is considered "the next generation" of Canon sensors. Could this be back side illuminated. It would make alot of sense if canon is increasing the pixel density to 28-30mp as being rumored. Here is one patent that Canon has applied for recently that illustrates this line of thought from Canon. Clearly this patent is describing a BSI (back side illuminated sensor) designed sensor and the patent is about different ways of preventing color mixing between neighboring pixels. US Patent Application 20140132812 This patent application was granted to Canon in September of 2016 (US9437635). It also shows that when we identify patent applications just how long it can take before being granted. (2 years in this case). Is there a new Canon 70-200 2.8L in the works?
