image.Canon coming April 14th

image.Canon looks to be on board and ready to start soon.  Featuring 10GB of long term 30+ day image storage and automatic forwarding to other services such as Google Drive, Flickr and will be soon augmenting that with Google Photos and Adobe Creative Cloud.  Image.Canon is also free to use if you have a supported Canon camera.

The gateway service will also have a PC component allowing for automatic image download.

The supported cameras (I can't seem to find a list of them) will automatically upload to image.Canon if the camera is connected to wifi.  In other words, at least right now, there's no mobile data plan that would work with this.   It makes sense, since no Canon camera offers the ability to use mobile 4G/5G data.  I think to really make this work well, Canon needs to make add-on battery grips that could offer a SIM slot and allow for wireless 4G/5G data transmission and the necessary firmware augmentation to allow for mobile connection.  Doing this via a battery grip would ease the burden of certification and firmware development of the camera itself.  Granted this is a hefty job if it's even possible.

While I think the automatic distribution is a step in the right direction - without a 4G or 5G constant connection I think it's only half there.
