CanonNews / Sunday, August 18, 2019 / Categories: News, Canon General News Canon USA Drops Ambassador Barbara Davidson In what looks like a twitter battle that happened, Canon USA dropped Ambassador Barbara Davidson for tweets that were insensitive and deemed by social media to be racist in nature. It seems this got the twitter community fired up, and people started to link in Canon USA, and ask Canon what they plan on doing about it. After a while, Barbara closed her twitter account claiming eyesight problems as the reason. She returned a few days later to post an apology for her comments, but by then it was too late, word had gotten back to Canon USA and they decided to terminate the relationship. Canon stated nothing, but simply Babara is no longer on the ambassador page. PetaPixel contacted Barabara who had this to say, and confirmed that Canon USA removed her; Thank you for reaching out to me. I’m glad you have my apology. Yes, Canon terminated my contract because they couldn’t risk a consumer boycott. My Twitter comments were culturally insensitive and some Castro supporters accused me of racism, so I completely understand their decision. I loved working with Canon, and it is heartbreaking to no longer have that relationship with them but I own my mistake and accept the consequences. My work speaks to who I am as a person. I feel grounded in that. I made a brutal mistake and I have to live with that. From a background standpoint I had to do a bit of digging to actually get more information, it seems in Texas there was a state-wide adoption of a policy to not allow Spanish to be spoken in schools and English was forced upon Hispanic students. I have no idea if this is the case today, or if this was just in the past. I personally can't see this happening today especially in more culturally diverse cities such as Austin, but that seems to be the reason behind the outrage. What do you think? Was this necessary, or was it overblown?
