They gave the lens a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars and a highly recommended rating. They broke out the rating as; Design 4.5 Features 4.5 Ease-of-use 4.5 Image quality 5 Value for money 4.5 The Canon RF 85mm F1.2L USM has the following core features; Portrait-length prime is designed for full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras. Exceptionally bright f/1.2 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field for selective focus applications and also benefits working in low-light situations. Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics element virtually eliminates color fringing and chromatic aberrations by refracting shorter wavelengths of the visible spectrum (blue light). One aspherical element and one UD element also help to control aberrations and distortions for sharper, clearer image quality. An Air Sphere Coating (ASC) has been applied to lens elements to reduce backlit flaring and ghosting for maintained light transmission and high contrast in strong lighting conditions. Ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with optimized focusing algorithms, a high-speed CPU, and an internal focusing design, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override. Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation. As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens has a weather-resistant design that protects against dust and moisture to enable its use in inclement conditions. Rounded 9-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. PhotographyBlog's conclusion; Image quality is simply out-of-this-world. Sharpness is superb throughout both the aperture range and at the centre and edges of the frame, distortion is negligible, and chromatic aberrations very hard to find. Even vignetting is pretty well-controlled wide-open at f/1.2. The ability to shoot at f/1.2 and create wonderful out-of-focus backgrounds thanks to the 9-bladed aperture and moderate telephoto focal length quickly becomes addictive, especially as you can successfully auto-focus in near darkness with the EOS R/RP cameras. Auto-focusing isn't the quickest, but it is quiet and almost 100% reliable on the Canon EOS RP camera that we tested the lens with, while manual focus over-ride at any time is a great feature. The build quality is outstanding, with the L-series weather-sealing offering peace of mind when using the lens outdoors in more inclement conditions. Canon also provide a good lockable lens hood and soft case in the box.
