CanonNews / Wednesday, January 8, 2020 / Categories: Rumors, Canon Mirrorless Canon RF 70-400 F4.5-F5.6L IS USM to be announced this year A new rumor has broke, this time about one of the canon lenses due to come out this year for the RF mount. According to Canon Rumors, the Canon RF 70-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM will be announced in 2020. This will be a great lens for the RF mount because right now the longest lens you can get for that mount is the RF 70-200 F2.8L IS USM. This should give Canon some time to perfect and release the super telephotos in 2021 in time for the 1 series RF camera body. What is also surprising (or shocking really) about the rumor is that the source suggests that the lens will be around the same size as the Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM. That would be amazing if true. As you can see from the diagram below which is approximately to scale, the Canon RF 70-200 is quite a bit smaller than the Canon EF 100-400. We discovered the patent a while ago for a Canon RF 70-400mm F4.5-5.6 lens however this patent shows a lens that is considerable longer than what one would expect. It could however be extending, like the 70-200 is, but that usually shows up on the patent.
