CanonNews / Thursday, September 12, 2019 / Categories: Canon Patents Canon Patent Application: Small Canon RF Prime lenses We have all been astounded by some of the lenses that Canon has created for the RF mount. But with the EOS RP out, I'm sure there's more than few people out there wanting to see smaller and lightweight primes to also surface from Canon. While not as headline catching, having a series of economical primes is also important to the RF lens ecosystem. In this patent, primarily for the RF 35mm 1.8 IS USM Macro we see other embodiments, some of them may come to fruition. Canon RF 20mm F2.0 (lens length of 70mm) Canon RF 35mm F2.8 (lens length of 40mm) Canon RF 45mm F2.8 (lens length of 43mm) Canon RF 35mm F2.0 (lens length of 30mm) and finally, while not a prime, also in this patent is what appears to be a 16-35mm F4.0, also very important to the ecosystem and the lens I'm personally wanting to see as soon as possible; Canon RF 16-35mm F4.0 Lens length (90mm - 97mm) Of course with any patent application, it's the idea that Canon is patenting, it may never make it into production, but the patent application certainly states that they may make it into production.
