Canon Patent Application: Canon IBIS enhancement

In this patent application, Canon is looking at now taking their IBIS unit and making it smaller - could this be then for the EOS-M system that requires smaller cameras? It's possible.  It's also possible that this was necessary for the R5 and R6 manufacturing as well.

An object of the present invention is to provide an image blur correction device that can be downsized in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis.

One of the issues with IBIS is that it tends to increase the thickness and also the amount of volume required inside of the camera, and those things are packed as tightly as possible.  Since it's usually impossible to shrink things down further, the camera size must increase.  In this patent application, Canon is looking at decreasing the width and height of the IBIS unit.

The camera illustration shows a DSLR, however, that in the past is simply a placeholder illustration, and never "proof" that it may end up in a DSLR.  It's just there to show a camera.
