Canon Patent Application: Canon EF-M 11-22mm F4-5.6

In this patent application, it looks like Canon is revisiting the excellent EOS-M lens for the Canon EF-M mount; The EOS-M 11-22mm F4-5.6 which is one of the mainstays of the EF-M ecosystem.

Where there are similarities to the EF-M 11-22, the element design is certainly different.

Could this be Canon exploring a Mark II version?  It would seem decidedly odd to come out with a Mark II version of this lens when more important lenses need to be released for the EF-M mount.

The  present invention is a zoom lens in which the entire system is small and has a wide angle of view, with little aberration fluctuation during focusing, high optical performance over the entire object distance, and easy focusing. And an imaging apparatus including the same.

While some may think that this would be for the RF mount, the ingress into the RF mount is a little high, with the back element being less than 11mm away from the sensor.
