In this latest rumor, Canon is looking at coming out with a Canon RF 20-50mm F4-5.6. Now they have done something like this in the past - that's the image that is shown above, the Canon EF 20-35mm F3.5-4.5. So it's entirely possible that Canon is reaching back into their notes and seeing how various lenses sold as the ecosystem was fleshing out. This would make a low-cost UWA for the RF mount, without resorting to exotic designs and would allow the lens to be far more compact and cheaper than a 16-35mm IS STM. CanonRumors notes; Here’s an interesting lens design, that would likely be quite compact. Perhaps a ‘pancake’ type zoom for the RF mount in the form of a Canon RF 20-50mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. While it can't be a pancake design, with the RF mount being so much closer to the sensor than the EF mount, it should be able to be much more compact than the 20-35mm was for the EF mount. Augment that with software corrections, and it can be developed to be even smaller. More to come.
