An Interview with Canon at CP+

Phototrends in France sat down with Canon during the CP+ show and did an exhaustive interview with them.

Canon is developing dual IS - In Body stabilization and In lens stabilization working together;

Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi: We are aware of the benefits that IBIS brings in terms of image stabilization. But we also have to look at the various scenarios in photography, the different focal distances that we develop and the variety of focal distances to which we must think. When we look at the problem in general, we think that the possibilities offered by optical stabilization are more advanced because it offers more flexibility to adapt and operate with different focal lengths, which is why we are still working with stabilization optical on our boxes.

That being said, we are aware of the benefits of image stabilization by the sensor and we are developing this technique as we discuss. In other words, in the future, when possible, the lens will have a very good image stabilization as well as the housing thanks to the stabilization of the sensor. And we believe that combining these two image stabilization methods will provide more value to the customer. We think this combination will be a strength for Canon.

Canon also re-affirmed that the EF-M mount is continuing and focused entirely on small lenses and small cameras, something that is more difficult with the RF system;

Go Tokura: For EOS R cameras and RF lenses, because we only launched them last year, we think there are a lot of improvements that can be proposed, so in the immediate future we're going to in order to update and improve as best as we can the group EOS R and RF. As far as the EF-M mount is concerned, our goal is to reduce the size of the housings and lenses, so that's the direction we're going to take.
